The 3½-hour battle that proves the IRS grace period is over
I’m flying out to Boston in the morning and driving to New London, CT, to meet with my attorney Eric Green for a podcast.
On Saturday, I’ll attend my daughter’s graduation from Swab Summer “bootcamp” at the US Coast Guard Academy.
But I needed to get you this email before I left.
This morning, I spent 3½ hours on the phone with an IRS Revenue Officer.
Not a customer service rep.
Not a collections department agent.
A Revenue Officer.
The kind that shows up at your door. The kind that empties bank accounts overnight. The kind that doesn’t negotiate.
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
The case should have been simple.
Standard Offer in Compromise. Clean resolution in 9-12 months.
But the client waited.
- Got busy with life.
- Put it on the back burner.
- Figured they had time.
The IRS had other plans.
Revenue Officer assignment. Emergency protocols.
Think of it like this: When someone has a heart attack, the ER has to drop everything. All scheduled procedures get postponed. The entire team focuses on saving one life.
That’s what happened this morning. We had to drop all our other cases to handle his 911 situation.
The cost?
Dramatically more expensive than if he’d acted when we first talked to him.
And during those 3½ hours this morning, the Revenue Officer made something crystal clear:
“Mr. Samaniego, we’re not playing games anymore.”
Here’s what’s changed:
The IRS is now using AI for collections and enforcement.
They’re identifying cases faster. Processing garnishments quicker. Going after people with surgical precision.
I’ve seen more IRS wage garnishments in the last two weeks than in the previous 5 years combined.
The grace period is over.
For the last few years, the IRS was drowning in paperwork. People could ignore notices for months without consequences.
That safety net just disappeared.
What this means for you:
If you’ve been putting off dealing with tax problems, the window is closing fast.
If you owe back taxes and haven’t filed returns, you’re in the danger zone.
If you’ve received IRS notices and thrown them in a drawer, it’s time to act.
I’m not trying to scare you.
I’m sharing field intelligence from someone who spent this morning fighting for a client who waited too long.
- The IRS enforcement machine is back online.
- Revenue Officers are being assigned aggressively.
- Simple cases are becoming complex emergencies.
The pattern I’m seeing:
Week 1: IRS notice arrives
Week 2-4: “I’ll deal with this next month”
Week 5-8: “I should probably call someone”
Week 9-12: Revenue Officer assignment
Week 13: Emergency intervention required
Don’t become the next 3½ hour emergency call this afternoon.
If you have unresolved tax issues, get them handled now.
While they’re still manageable. While the solutions are still affordable. While I can still negotiate instead of fight.
Starting September 1st, I’m reducing my caseload to a maximum of 4-8 new clients per month.
The complexity has tripled. Revenue Officer interventions require emergency protocols that consume massive resources.
My pricing will be increasing accordingly.
Right now, I have hundreds of people per day requesting my books and asking for help.
But here’s the reality: We can only help people who want to help themselves.
If you’ve had a full consultation with me, got your portal opened, but haven’t moved forward with payment… this might be your last opportunity.
I’m sorry, but we may not be able to help you “when you’re ready.”
Emergency medicine doesn’t work that way. And neither does tax rescue.
If you need help:
Don’t wait for the Revenue Officer knock.
Don’t wait for the bank levy notice. Don’t wait for the wage garnishment to hit.
Book a consultation while your case is still in the “simple resolution” category.

The IRS isn’t waiting for you to get comfortable with the idea of fixing this.
They’re moving forward with or without you.

P.S. Elizabeth watched me fight for 3½ hours this morning and said, “Carlos, people need to understand what’s coming.” She’s right. The enforcement landscape has changed. Act accordingly.
Don’t wait for the knock on your door.
