Man, today has been one for the books.
I learned I became a best-selling author on my new book co-authored with Dick Vitale. Which was awesome to hear. I have more information in the P.S. below about that.
Then while drinking my coffee this morning, at 6:05 am, I got an email.
A client – the one who’s been dragging his feet getting us some vital info – well, he woke up to find the Franchise Tax Board had wiped his bank account clean.
Lovely thing to discover right before a weekend holiday, right?
And then, just to sprinkle some more excitement on my day, another client’s summons from the IRS was waiting for me at the office.
It never gets dull around here, I tell you.
But here’s the kicker: both these people had options.
They could’ve tackled their tax mess head-on or they could’ve played the waiting game.
Spoiler: Waiting doesn’t pan out so well.
So, indulge me a sec.
Picture two guys: John and Ben. Both staring down the big, bad wolf that is the IRS or worse yet, the Franchise Tax Board of California.
John? He’s that guy who’s breaking into a cold sweat every time he sees an envelope with “IRS” stamped on it.
His desk’s a battlefield of unopened mail, and he’s ducking from his financial woes.
Then there’s Tom. Same mess, but a whole different mindset.
He realizes he’s got to get moving and does just that – finds pros who can help him wrestle with the IRS beast.
And step by step, he gets out from under it.
While Tom’s finding his way out, John’s sinking further.
By the time he realizes he needs help, he’s deep in quicksand, with the IRS tightening the noose.
Fast forward, and Tom’s walking tall, a tax-problem-free man. John?
Not so much.
What’s the moral of this story? It’s something advertising legend Martin Conroy captured perfectly: “Action will remove the doubt that theory cannot solve.”
Simple, but man, is it powerful.
Look, I don’t want you to end up like John.
Tackling tax issues can be intimidating, but remember, there are pros out there who’ve got your back.
So, make like Tom, and let’s get ahead of this thing.
