As I sit down to write this, the glint of the sun on my recently awarded Quilly Award from The National Academy of Best-Selling Authors captures my attention.
I received it this Friday evening, honoring the success of my co-authored book with the charismatic Dick Vitale titled “Never Give Up.”
I must admit, standing in Beverly Hills among some of the brightest minds, receiving an award for a book that skyrocketed on the Amazon bestseller chart, was a surreal experience.
Beverly Hills… what a place!
A city that symbolizes success, dreams, and sometimes, hidden stories of despair.
As relaxed at the pool on Friday afternoon waiting for the award ceremony to start that evening, then walked around the hotel and those iconic palm-tree-lined streets, soaking in the ambiance, my mind wandered to Wesley Snipes.
The once invincible Blade actor who, between 1999 and 2006, earned a whopping $38 million but never paused to file his tax returns.
You’d think it’s the plot of another blockbuster, but the grim reality saw him serving a three-year sentence.
Why reminisce on such a cautionary tale amidst my achievements in the land of stars and stories?
Because it serves as a stark reminder. It underscores that success, glitz, and glamour can sometimes mask underlying issues.
And one of those recurring issues, my dear reader, is the very foundation of my life’s work: Unfiled and unpaid taxes.
Everyone has a story to tell, a script to write.
But if we omit essential chapters from our story, like our tax responsibilities, we may face an ending we never anticipated.
To those standing on the precipice of unfiled returns or looming tax debts, think of Wesley. Then, pivot. Shift your narrative.
It’s never too late to start a new chapter.
The most beautiful stories aren’t about dodging our duties but about facing challenges head-on, learning, growing, and emerging stronger.
That is exactly what our new book is all about: Never Give Up: Stories of Grit, Determination, Tenacity and Triump.
Keep scripting your story, but ensure you’re the hero, not the cautionary tale.
Warm Regards,
