This morning, I was out on my usual walk along Mill Creek, a beautiful spot less than a hundred yards from my front door.
It’s a serene place where Bruno and I walk every morning and afternoon, enjoying the calming sounds of the rushing water.
But amidst this tranquility, danger lurks.
A couple of weeks ago, some kids tragically drowned in the creek. Such rare incidents are a stark reminder of the hidden dangers.
More common in spring, though, are rattlesnakes.
And this morning, I had a heart-pounding encounter with one.
As I was walking back from the creek along a path leading to our neighborhood, I heard a distinct rattle of a snake.
My heart nearly stopped.
I ran forward, looking back to see a rattlesnake three inches from where I had stepped.
Fortunately, it rattled before it bit.
Later, my neighbor killed that rattlesnake because it was just a few yards from where his grandkids play.
We both hated the idea of killing a snake in its natural habitat, but it was the safe thing to do to protect the kids, pets, and neighbors who walk this path daily.
Sometimes, taking drastic action is necessary to prevent greater harm.
This rattlesnake encounter made me think of my client, Martha.
You might remember her from a previous email.
Martha had been caught in the grip of the California Franchise Tax Board, or as I like to call it, the Cali Claw.
It’s a fitting name because dealing with the Cali Claw is like handling a rattlesnake – one wrong move, and it strikes.
Martha owed a significant amount of money to the state, and just like a rattlesnake, the Franchise Tax Board can strike your bank account or wages without warning once they’ve notified you of your debt.
But with our help, Martha got fifteen thousand dollars back from the Cali Claw.
She was over the moon and left us a glowing five-star review.
I’m sharing this because many people, like Martha, don’t realize the danger until it’s too late.
The state sends notices as warnings, much like a rattlesnake’s rattle.
Ignoring these warnings leads to serious consequences, similar to a snake bite that requires immediate and costly treatment.
Dealing with state income taxes early can prevent these severe aftereffects.
If not addressed promptly, you’ll face significant costs and trouble later on.
So, here’s the deal: don’t wait for the rattlesnake to bite.
Take action now before the state strikes your bank account or wages.
