If you thought horror stories were just for campfires and Halloween, you haven’t met the IRS when you’re on their radar. But before I jump into my story.
Now that April 15th is in our rearview mirror, I’m hoping you’ve either filed your taxes or secured an extension.
If you haven’t seen my Fox interview on why hitting these deadlines is crucial, you should give it a watch—it’s a real eye-opener. (Watch Here)
But today, I need to share a chilling tale about one of my clients.
This isn’t just a story; it’s a stark warning for anyone who has shrugged off filing their tax returns.
Here’s the deal: This client had been with us for almost two years to be exact 687 days, and during that time, we nudged, we reminded, we practically pleaded with them to file their returns.
They never did.
Just this morning, we got a bombshell in the form of a certified letter from the IRS.
Their procrastination had finally caught up with them, and now an IRS revenue officer is on their case, demanding a face-to-face meeting in June.
They’re now required to haul in a heap of documentation: everything from wage statements, bank statements, proof of all living expenses, to detailed lists of their possessions and even location of any safe deposit books.
We’re talking about a deep dive into their financial life that could have been avoided with a few simple steps earlier on.
This is the real horror: dealing with an IRS revenue officer.
It’s invasive, it’s stressful, and believe me, it’s expensive.
Once you’re in this spot, the cost of getting professional help to represent you can go through the roof.
So here’s my call to action for you: If you haven’t filed your tax returns yet, do it now.
Don’t wait for the IRS to request you show up to their office(they don’t come to your home anymore) with a nightmare scenario like this one.
