Well I hope you had a great Valentines Day with your loved ones. Elizabeth and I had a special quiet day together. We slept in on Valentines Day, then went for a late Valentines Breakfast at IHOP, where we talked about how much has happen over the last few years and of course our little girl coming to us in about 11 weeks 🙂
After breakfast I pulled out my debit card to pay for breakfast than I remember something I learned about a year ago, but I forgot sometimes.
Never use a debit card to pay for hotel stays, resteruant, and gas.
Some gas stations and restaurants will put a hold on your card for more than you actually spend, says Rutter. And it can be several days before you get it back.
This just happen to me on my trip to Chicago a few weeks ago. i paid for our hotel which cost me about $475 for a couple nights, however, there was a hold for over $890 on my bank account.
When I called the bank, I had totally forgot about “the rule”. It wasn’t a problem a few days later my money was released. But had I not realized it a was writing checks it could have mean’t bounced checks.
Hotels, gas stations and restaurants are dicey places to use debit cards anyway, because they’re popular venues for identity thieves. Instead, use your credit card or cash and save the debit card for your bank’s ATM.
Until next time,
